Adding an extension to your home is an excellent way to increase the amount of space in your property without the hassle and extra costs of moving to a new house.

At Ian McGregor Architects, we offer a range of extension services from bespoke single and 2-storey extensions, garage conversions and sunrooms. Our team is fully committed to helping transform your dream extension project into a reality.

The process

Step 1: Feasibility (Concept Design)

  • Engage with an architect to carry out an initial consultation and develop your project brief.
  • Appoint your chosen architect to prepare concept designs.
  • Review design proposals and make alterations to suit requirements.
  • Firm up project budget costs (including architect fees) once design and layout has been agreed.

Step 2: Planning/Warrant Approvals

  • Prepare planning/building warrant drawings and submit application(s) to council.
  • Appoint a structural engineer, if structural alterations are required.

Step 3: Tender

  • Prepare tender documentation and invite contractor to provide tenders.
  • Carry out a Tender review meeting with contractor.
  • Appoint chosen contractor.

Step 4: Construction

  • Hold a Pre-start meeting to run though project and agree the start date.
  • Architect to carry out site inspections and contract administration throughout project.
  • Post completion meeting to review completed build and address any snagging.

Rubislaw Extension

A crisp, timber clad extension to a period house, providing the additional space to create a stunning Kitchen/Dining space, with connection to garden. The design was intentionally modern, with materials selected to contrast with the granite of the existing house.

Extension and internal alterations carried out to a house in Stoneywood. Creating a new mulit-purpose room, with connection to the garden, and reworking the internal layout to improve the flow of the house.

Beckram Extension

Beckram Extension

A common issue with new build homes, is a lack of family space. Albyn Architects solved this families problem by forming a single storey extension to the rear of the house.

This created additional Living accommodation, with defined areas for the Kitchen, Dining and Family space. The pitched roof design allowed for lots of natural daylight and a vaulted ceiling. Bi-fold doors provided a connection to the garden, with access onto a new area of decking creating an outdoor seating/entertaining area.
