At Ian McGregor Architects, our experienced team of architects bring their combined experience, creativity, practicality and high quality design to the forefront. A team capable of meeting the demands of any building project across the north east of Scotland.

With a team of 3 architects, you are guaranteed to always have an expert partner who specialises in delivering both residential and commercial projects with you every step of the way. Who not only cares about, but is committed to, ensuring your vision is brought to life on time and on budget.

At this point you may be thinking that we use to be called something else. You are right, the practice was rebranded as Ian McGregor Architects in 2024, after a management buyout of Albyn Architects, which was originally founded in 2015.

You may also be wondering who our three architects are, so let's introduce you…

Ian McGregor

Director | Architect

Ian is the Director and Principal Architect, responsible for the day-to-day running of the practice, overseeing and delivering projects.

Ian followed his love for design and the built environment to university. Graduating with a Masters in Architecture from the Scott Sutherland School of Architecture, Aberdeen, before qualifying as an Architect in 2009.

Before being appointed director of Ian McGregor Architects (formally Albyn Architects) Ian was a director of McGregor Garrow Architects. Earlier in his career, Ian held key roles in a number of architecture practices; Ian Rodger Architects, Halliday Fraser Munro, Space Solutions and Squire Associates.

Ian has over 20 years of experience in delivering exceptional residential and commercial projects, including new build homes, bespoke extensions, office and retail fit-outs, healthcare and community builds.

Caroline McBain

Associate Architect

Caroline is a key member of the team since joining in 2018 as an Associate Architect.

Caroline has many years of experience working on domestic, commercial and public projects. She is highly skilled in creating bespoke designs and is responsible for leading projects from conception to completion on site.

Caroline qualified as an Architect in 2018 after completing her studies at Scott Sutherland School of Architecture.

Caroline loves working with clients to understand and develop project briefs into fully considered design solutions.

Elena Pampana

Architect

Elena joined the team as an Architectural Assistant in January 2023 and quaified as an Architect in March 2025.

Elena is responsible for running her own projects on site and is highly skilled in producing conceptual designs. She utilies this skill to produce high level visualisations to demonstrate proposed designs to clients.

Having completed her studies in Glasgow, where she obtained her Masters in Architecture, Elena went on to gain experience working for architectural practices in Dublin, Banff, Glasgow and Dundee.

Elena is Passive House certified and uses this knowledge to develop her passion for architectural conservation and sustainable design.
